The High Priestess Bronze Sculpture | Sandy Kastel

$ 7,500.00

THE HIGH PRIESTESS

High Egyptian Priestesses flourished during the Protodynastic period of Egypt. The Protodynastic Period in ancient Egypt was characterised by an ongoing process of political unification, culminating in the formation of a single state to begin the Early Dynastic Period. Furthermore, it is during this time that the Egyptian language was first recorded in hieroglyphs.

Their remains were mummified and mainly known for being one of the so-called "cocaine mummies".

This original bronze represents many High Priestesses who played an important role in the cults of Amun, Ra and Atum.

This bronze was cast in the traditional lost wax casting. The oldest known examples of this technique are the objects discovered in the Cave of the Treasure (Nahal Mishmar) hoard in southern Israel, and which belong to the Chalcolithic period (4500–3500 BC).
